Nellie and Elmer!

This card was made for a Facebook friend of mine who has such a positive outlook on life, considering that nearly a year ago she was struck down with Lymphedema in both legs.  She calls them Nellie and Elmer and has set up a craft challenge to commemorate the first anniversary of their appearance.  I am in awe of her positivity and it was a pleasure to make this!
I started by cutting two elephants from the Animal Kingdom cartridge on my Cricut Expression 1 from Sheena's stamping card.  The small one (Elmer) is 3" and the image was flipped; the large elephant (Nellie) is 5".
I was working with a 20cm x 20cm white card blank, so cut the topper to 19.1cm x 19.1cm and a piece of black card as a mat to 19.5cm x 19.5cm.  The elephants were both glued onto the topper with Distress Collage Medium, the whole topper sealed with the same medium and thoroughly dried with my heat tool.
As the surface was now non porous, I could use my Faber-Castell Big Brush Markers to colour, blending them out with my fingers or a cotton bud (Q Tip).  For Nellie I stuck with traditional colours (Warm Greys with a touch of Pink Madder Lake and Ivory).
Elmer was a loose interpretation of the children's book character; coloured in blocks with Black, Permanent Green Olive, Orange Glaze, Pthalo Blue, Purple Violet, Cadmium Yellow, Pink Madder Lake and Deep Scarlet Red.  Shading was then added in Warm Grey IV.
The background was also added using Big Brush Markers.  The ground is a mixture of Earth Green, Permanent Green Olive and a hint of May Green and the sky is Ultramarine with a touch of Indanthrene Blue.
One of the Wee Grasses from Claritystamp was added in Fern Green and Library Green Archival ink along the bottom.
It only remained to mat and layer the topper onto the card.  I chose not to add a sentiment of any sort.
