To Sir, With Love!

This card was made for all my colleagues to sign for an esteemed colleague who retired this year; he will be greatly missed!  The card was inspired by one in the Visible Image gallery by Nicky Gilburt.

I decided to use my large gelli plate to create the background, as it is brilliant for adding depth and layers.  I cut a piece of Sheena's stamping card 19cm x 19cm; the gelli plate was loaded up with a mixture of Broken China and Tumbled Glass Distress ink, spritzed with water and a print taken.  I then laid the A4 cog stencil over the top, went over it with Mermaid Lagoon, removed the stencil and took another print.
Having stamped and heat embossed both stamps in the Just Hit Play set by Visible Image as well as the Happy and Memories word chain stamps by Claritystamp, I decided to colour the back grounds to match using the same technique; this time I used the positive image of the stencil using the left over ink.
Depth was added using the dotty circle background stamp from the Universal set (again by Visible Image) and Mermaid Lagoon ink.

Finally, to tie the background in with the sentiments the scribble circle stamp from the same set was stamped using Black Soot Archival ink for a crisp, dark finish.

The sentiments were trimmed down, matted onto black card, leaving a narrow border and the large background piece was matted onto a piece of 19.5cm x 19.5cm black card to match.  Before I added the tape, I cut it out, took out the centres of the spools and the section between the tape, used my CropaDile to punch the four small holes and added the whole thing using foam pads for extra dimension.
The whole front was added to a 20cm x 20cm pre made white card.  I liked the effect so much, that I made another version for my brother's birthday!
